Patriotic Austro-Hungarian WWI Iron and 9ct Gold Ring
A true piece of history - a patriotic Austro-Hungarian iron ring with outside inscription of 'Gold Gab Ich Fur Eisen 1914 Silb.Kreuz' translates to 'I gave gold for iron 1914 Silver Cross'. These ring were handed out as part of nationwide effort to raise funds for a WWI preparations.
This particular ring was most likely kept as a memento as it was, ironically, encased in gold with hand-engraved inscription inside reading l.v.d Mutter (mutter means mother in German). We may not know this particular keepsake's entire history - but it is nonetheless a thrilling memento.
The iron band has some rust damage to it, and the gold band sees some of the bezel edges missing.
Measurement: ring size P. The width is 6.35mm.
Materials: 9ct yellow gold and iron.
